Life is hectic ...

Okay, it has been over a week since my last post. So thought I’d fill you in on life. Last week, Sunday – Thursday, I taught crafts for VBS at our church. Had a wonderful time, as always, but by Thursday, was completely exhausted. I think the kids were too. LOL!

Tiff my DSD finished up with their week long softball stint in Shawnee, Kansas. Am glad and sad at the same time that it’s over. I enjoyed the little weekend jaunts out of town, but I hadn’t been able to go to the week long events and probably wouldn’t have enjoyed them near as much anyway.

This week things have slowed down considerably, thank God! Tonight I do have Lit ‘N’ Latte at church. This is a new group we have started. We meet once a month to discuss the monthly read and fellowship. Tonight will be our first meetup. Am looking forward to that. This month’s read was Beach House by Sally John. I will post a review later this week. Was a great read tho. First on the agenda for tonight is El Jimador! Love Mexican!

Outside my window… there is a nice breeze blowing, the sun is shining.
I am thinking... about how long the week is going to be with DH gone.
I am thankful for… my family and friends.
From the kitchen… I need another Diet Dew.
I am wearing… blue capris and my white MML shirt.
I am creating… nothing at the moment, supposed to be working.
I am going… to help with VBS tonight at church
I am reading… Beach House by Sally John
I am hoping… to have a relaxing Friday off.
I am hearing… radio ‘The Lady in Red,’ and the birds singing outside.
Around the house… there are a lot of things need to do, but won’t get too until the weekend.
One of my favorite things… is to spend time with my friends, or to sit in the sun with a good book.
A few plans for the rest of the week… VBS tonight through Thursday, supper with a friend on Thursday before VBS, and taking time off on Friday (from everything).

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about library company…

Who, if anyone usually accompanies you to the library? Is it somewhere you go alone? Or is it a regular outing with family or friends? Which do you prefer?

I usually head to the library on Sunday afternoons. I don't take anyone with me. This is "me" time. A time I can be alone with one of the things I love most -> BOOKS!

My crew finally made it home from Denver around 5:15 Sunday morning. Was a long week for me - glad they are back home.

MIA Sort Of ...

Hello all!

Yes, I have been MIA here lately. So many things going on in our lives, it’s just been crazy. My DSD is on a softball traveling team and also practicing for fall softball at school. I have been reading what I can, starting a Lit ‘N’ Latte group at church, and doing some stitching, and making cards for heroes when I can. With all of that I have to work too, bummer!

Last weekend games were in Overland Park, KS. Our team won three and lost two. This next week the team is headed for Denver, CO. I have opted not to go, (a whole week, is a little more ball, then what I like), and besides my niece and nephew are coming in from PA! I plan to help mom and dad entertain them for part of the week. Can’t wait to see them!

The last two books I just finished are:

One for the Money by Janet Evanovich

This was the first book by Janet Evanovich that I have read. It was a fun read. Stephanie Plum was a go getter of a sleuth. She was a strong, funny character. Lots of twists and turns. I plan to read more of hers, but in the order they are written. I tried to read one of the newer ones, and couldn’t follow it as well. So, I plan to read them in order.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke

This was another first for me. I loved the food theme, loved the business that Hannah has, loved the mystery she solved. This was a great cozy to read – and the recipes makes it extra special!

What a wonderful read!

Jackson's Yada Yada series has sold half a million copies, and this new offshoot series—the Yada Yada House of Hope—promises the same. She literally stumbles over a homeless woman, an event that changes Gabby's life. She looks her up at Manna House, a homeless shelter, and first finds welcome and eventually a job. I just loved this book! I would have to give it a 5 out of 5. I love the Yada series Jackson has authored.

Gabby has packed up with her husband and moved to Chicago, leaving her two boys behind to finish up school for the year in a private school. On Gabby’s first real adventure out, she runs into a homeless woman named Lucy and injures her foot in the process. Lucy wraps Gabby’s foot and Gabby insists that the woman come home with her to at least take some medicine for a bad cough. When they get home, Gabby finds her husband Philip and his new business partner with wife, having drinks. Philip is flabbergasted that Gabby comes in late, wet, a wreck towing this homeless person.

I won’t tell you the whole story … but I could very easily – I enjoyed it so much.

The characters were very well developed. I loved all the characters you get to know at Manna House. Quite a diversity of characters. All fun and loving. I did get upset with Gabby letting Philip treat her as he did. And I got quite upset with Philip – he has such an attitude.

This was such a fun, fast-paced read, filled with wonderful characters, laughter and love. I can’t wait for the next book to come out!

My Thoughts

At first I had a really difficult time getting into this book. I kept thinking, okay what’s the story here. Guess I couldn’t bet settled in with it at first. After reading a while I sat up and took note. The book, The Four Corners of the Sky by Michael Malone, reached out and grabbed me (course not literally, LOL). ~Why would a father who has made a life as a con artist, drop his daughter (Annie) off at his sister’s (Sam) place (the family homestead) and leave her there, never making any attempts to contact her, then one day call’s Annie and tells her to come to St. Louis that he was dying.~ Now that grabbed my attention.

As I was reading this, my emotions became a tangled mess, as I am sure Annie’s did with regards to her father.

Annie was a very head strong character, who went after her childhood dream and lived it. I loved the character Sam (Annie’s Aunt) She was so funny and witty. Clark the “in-love” (have to read the book to figure that one out), was a fairly, laid back character. I won’t be spoiling anything here as they have a very interesting relationship. LOL.

When I finally cozied up to this book, I found the book a very entertaining read. The book was filled with deceit, love, Navy, and the FBI! Be sure to check this one out when you can.

Wow, what a good story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is filled with mystery and romance. I enjoyed the bickering between Lady Anne and Lord Darkefelle. You never knew how the other one was going to react towards the other. Lady Anne is a feisty gal, extremely smart and engaging. Not the time that Lord Darkefelle usually surrounds himself with.

The werewolf you ask? Now that’s another mystery. Pick up this great historical romance and find out.

Shepherd's Fall by W.L. Dyson

Nick Shepherd has inherited one-third of the family’s bounty hunter business called Prodigal Recovery Agency after the loss of his father.

Nick’s life is in shambles – the business is in financial trouble, his mom has Alzheimer’s. Nick’s wife Jessica is hitting him up for past due child support, and his daughter, Krystal, is having issues of her own – rebelling against anyone and everything.

On top of all this Nick needs to locate his sister Martie in hopes of saving the business. Martie hasn’t been in contact with the family for years due to some childhood issues. Nick asks Steven, his brother, to try and locate her in order to have her sign papers to put the family home up for collateral for a loan.

Business is slow and Nick needs work to build it up. He receives a call wanting the agency to hunt down a prostitute named Zeena – who is also a meth addict.

When Nick goes on the search he ends up making a faulty arrest – the woman he arrests is the Zeena’s twin named Annie. Annie is also trying to locate her sister due to some health issues she is having. Annie decides to join Nick in the search.

During all of this, Krystal is off making bad choices – skipping school, hanging out at bars, etc. So Jessica contacts Nick to take care of the problem teen.

Richie a man from Nick’s past escapes during a prison transport …

The rest, you will have to read, I am not a spoiler, LOL.

I enjoyed this story very much. There are lots of twists, turns and surprises around the corner. The characters are very well developed and believable. Need a good mysterious read … pick this up at your local book store.

What a wonderful, fun read. This book is filled with so many things: witches, wizards, wares, laughter, sadness, magic, and of course love. We have a sweet little witch (Stasi) who rooms with another witch (Blair) who is very strong and determined. They make a great team. Both of them own their own shops below their living quarters. They have lived in and out of this small town for centuries. Things start to go awry when they first notice that the lake (they more or less have adopted) doesn’t look right. Then they get a visit from some ghosts who are complaining about something not being right. Well their whole world goes topsy turvy. No spoilers here. A must read.

I really enjoyed this book. Each character has their own set of circumstances to overcome. They all come together once a month to discuss a book that Eugenie has picked for the monthly read. They are also are to knit a particular project for that month’s read. At first none of the ladies see their circumstances as real problems, until the newcomer, Hannah, shares tidbits of her life. During their monthly meetup, things begin to build up to a boiling point and then they all begin to share their different circumstances. Hannah makes them realize they all have circumstances that can be overcome.

The Red Siren by M.L. Tyndall.

The story unfolds with Faith and her sisters being moved to Charles Towne to live. Their mother has past on, and their father is always out to sea. Much to the daughters dismay, the sea has always been their father’s first love.

With an absentee father and one sister married to an abusive man, Faith feels she must protect her sisters and her self from being forced into bad marriages as well. Faith has a strategy to build enough wealth to keep her and her sisters from being forced to marry.

Before the Admiral goes to sea, he asks Captain Waite (Dajon) to become guardian over his three daughters. Unknown to the Admiral, the Captain and Faith have had a previous encounter – Faith knows exactly who Dajon is, but Dajon, isn’t quite sure if she is the one. (No spoilers here.)

I loved this book. If I were to grade it I would give it an A+.

All the characters are wonderfully created. Between the character development and Ms. Tyndall’s terminology, it was like watching a play. I could see everything she described and felt what the characters were feeling.

I look forward to reading her next book that will come out in fall of 2009.

My Review:

This is book #3 in a series called Westward Hearts Series.

The book is about a gal (Ginger) who joins up with a wagon train headed west in order to give the doc (Grant) his just due – for letting her brother die when she was a little girl during a stage coach robbery.

During this time that Ginger has been with the wagon train, she has been living amongst many Christians and a new mind set begins to take hold. Her revenge on Grant is not as strong as it once was and she becomes torn between her old life and a new way of living.

During the travel west – a band of thieves attack the wagon train. Come to find out it was Ginger’s pa and his crew. During the attack, Ginger’s younger brother was hurt and left behind. The wagon train folks end up brining him back to camp – he has a head injury and is very ill.

Ginger then is forced to make the decision of going back with her pa and living a life among thieves and robbers or to take a stand in what she comes to believe in and live a life among good, hard working people and with God in her heart.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters are very well developed and believable. In fact at first I didn’t like Ginger one bit. She reminded me of a defiant, mouthy teen. LOL! Course that all changed.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves heading west adventures. I would like to go back and read books #1 and #2 now!

Hope everyone one had a wonderful New Years. I spend an evening with a friend and then home to hubby. On New Year's day I spent the day sorting and rearranging my craft room - still not finished.

So … any Reading Resolutions? Say, specific books you plan to read? A plan to read more ____? Anything at all? Name at least ONE thing you’re looking forward to reading this year!

I plan to read what I have on hand as well as ARCs and gift books only. I am going to try not to buy a single book this year. This will be the hardest challenge for me ever, as I am an addict!

My Review:

This was a story about two little boys, one who struggles with illness. They both cope with the lost of their mother and being uprooted from their home.

I loved this little story. It is filled with magic, love, and hope. The really liked the Commander – he was so loving to the boys. I particularly loved the part when St. Nick appears. But, I won’t spoil the plot for you. I have no question about the book becoming a Christmas classic. I do intend to pass the book onto my family.

My Review:

Delia struggles with several challenges in her life with the loss of two loved ones and a major change in her social standing. Delia loses her grandfather who was the town’s preacher and is faced with having to find another place to live as well as find a job to make ends meet.

Delia hopes for her father’s return (who has been gone most of Delia’s life), when a stranger, Jude Tucker, rides into town with some news. Delia learns that her father has died in a mining accident – leaving her with a substantial amount of money. Delia is then faced with the struggles of being an heiress.

This was a wonderful little Christmas cozy. I say that cause Christmas is just that “cozy.” I really enjoyed the book. Delia is headstrong, just as headstrong as Tucker. I enjoyed the interaction between the two. The author uses the conflicts to show us what a forgiving God is. Highly recommend this book.

My Review

I the midst of wanting to plan the perfect Christmas with her ex-husband, Agatha takes in an abused girl and receives a disturbing letter.

It’s all fun, mayhem, and murder!

This was the first Agatha Raisin book I have read. I really enjoyed the book. The characters were quite believable. I really got tickled with Agatha’s personality and wit.

I look forward to reading more mysteries with Agatha Raisin.

My Review

Josie receives a call from her brother in-law Nate, who wants Josie to come and help out with the family orchard as Josies’ sister Laurel is pregnant. Josie struggles with this decision – knowing her fears from her past. Josie quits her job and lets her apartment go and heads for the orchard.

Arriving home, she finds that her sister is pregnant with twins, not one baby, but two!

Josie also finds herself face-to-face with the orchard manager Grady – who is not happy with the prospect of having to work with her at all.

Josie wants to prove herself to Grady and works very hard trying to keep up with him and the other workers. But, the family notices some things about Josie – lack of energy, then vomiting and the family and Grady assumes she is pregnant. However, Josie is trying to hide the illness – not wanting the family to know and especially Laurel who is having some complications with her pregnancy.

Between her illness and past fears, Josie had many obstacles to face. In the end, Grady is there to offer a helping hand and more.

This was a wonderful read. I found it hard to put down. The characters were very well developed. I found myself getting irritated with Miss. Josie at times. It was easy to fall into the character.

Loved the tension and struggles between Josie and Grady throughout the book. And Grady, was he a man to love or what! He became so patient and caring.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

I'm wondering what Santa brought just for me.
Could it be cardstock or chipboard or lace?

I receive a lot of review books, but I have never once told lies about the book just because I got a free copy of it. However, some authors seem to feel that if they send you a copy of their book for free, you should give it a positive review.
Do you think reviewers are obligated to put up a good review of a book, even if they don’t like it? Have we come to a point where reviewers *need* to put up disclaimers to (hopefully) save themselves from being harassed by unhappy authors who get negative reviews?

What good is a book review – if you are not truthful about it? I am just starting to review books, and I will give my honest opinion of the book to the best that I can. Authors need to realize that just because I may not like the book – that is my opinion only. There are probably hundreds of readers out there who will love the book.

1. What book is on the left hand side of your computer or closest to the left hand side? This is terrible but I don't have any on my desk right now. I am currently reading Kissing Christmas Goodbye by M.C. Beaton and Drood by Dan Simmons.

2. Are you reviewing it, is it your favourite, or is it there for some other reason and specify. Both are very good. The one by MC Beaton is a cozy mystery, very entertaining. The other is a advanced reader copy, an historical mystery that I am really enjoying.

Last Post for Today, I promise ...

I’ve asked, in the past, about whether you more often buy your books, or get them from libraries. What I want to know today, is, WHY BUY? Even if you are a die-hard fan of the public library system, I’m betting you have at least ONE permanent resident of your bookshelves in your house. I’m betting that no real book-lover can go through life without owning at least one book. So … why that one? What made you buy the books that you actually own, even though your usual preference is to borrow and return them? If you usually buy your books, tell me why. Why buy instead of borrow? Why shell out your hard-earned dollars for something you could get for free?

Am guilty as charged … I tend to buy most of my books. I don’t feel completely satisfied until that book is in my hand and it is totally mine – selfish I know. I want my own books. I don’t like to borrow, except from the library once in a while. I do however, lend my books out all the time. Not as possessive with them after I have had a chance to get my nose in the book I guess.

I do use our library; however, the library does not usually carry new releases in a very timely manner and I tend to have trouble finding other books of interest there. I do love to go to the library – I get a warm, relaxing feeling just stepping inside the door. Must be the atmosphere. My kids tease me, that it must be the smell of all those old books. Yes … that is comforting too, for some reason. LOL.

Okay, thought I'd try one of these, so this is another first for me.

What, if any, memorable or special book have you ever gotten as a present? Birthday or otherwise. What made it so notable? The person who gave it? The book itself? The “gift aura?”

At first I was thinking, yes I have gotten books as gifts but none that really stood out to me until … my thoughts went back to my childhood. My grandmother “Punk” gave me a white leather, King James version, bible with my name on it for my birthday. I used to carry it back and forth to the church that was built behind our house where I grew up. Tho years have past and I don’t use the little bible anymore – have the New International Version – which I understand a wee little better. The little bible is now inside its original box now, more of a keepsake … with many memories of my “Punk.” We miss you ...

It's Over ...

The election is finally over. I don’t know how I feel about the results. I have mixed emotions about it, but have had from the very beginning. Both candidates have good qualities and some bad. I truly feel that it is going to take more than a new president to turn this country around. All we can do is pray for our Nation, President-Elect Obama, and his family and Let God!

Now on to a lighter note …

Just an update on my current reading. In the past few days I have had my nose in so many different books. Last week I received a copy of Drood by Dan Simmons. I have started reading it, so far it has been a pretty good read. But, one you have to read carefully as it is not a light read. I just finished, as you can see below, the book Sweet and Deadly, which was a cozy mystery. I need one of these every now and then. A quick, light hearted, fun read is always refreshing whether it be a cozy mystery or chic lit. I tend to read according to my mood. I am currently finishing up The Shack and The Last Lecture. I also like to have several different types of books going at once, if you haven’t noticed. LOL.

Love this, but am always late ... Saturday is a hard day for me to get on the blog thing. So I play catch up on Mondays.

Saturday's question was:

There are many outstanding characters in the books we read but often there's that one special character we remember for a long time. Sometimes it's because we relate to them, or maybe we were going through something similar to what they experienced. Or maybe they are just the sort of person we wish we were.
Who is the most memorable character in Christian fiction for you and why?

My most memorable character … I don’t remember the name of the book or the name of the character (that’s bad, I know). It is was she did that has stayed with me forever.

I never quite understood what it really meant to carry on a conversation with God, other than prayer. In this book – the lady carried on a conversation with God, like He was sitting right next to her. She discussed anything and everything. No she wasn’t crazy, He was just very important in her life. This opened up a whole new world for me. I don’t just pray, I talk to Him now.

This was the first book by Charlaine Harris that I have read. I have heard great things about Charlaine, so was anxious to read this book. I was a little disappointed in the book. I felt that the story and characters were both a little lacking. I didn’t feel drawn in, until the end of the story, which was sad. I guess I was looking for a little more drama. I do plan to give Charlaine another try. It might have just been this particular book.

Christian Fiction Carnival

Today's question:

Whether or not you celebrate Halloween, there's something about the shorter days and chilly air that makes one want to curl up with a scary book. The horror market for Christian fiction is growing in creativity and testing all sorts of boundaries. The suspense market is also very rich with many talented authors. So my question(s) for you is...what's the best Christian fiction horror or suspense novel that you've read? What book would you recommend to someone who wanted to try out these genres? What's a book in these genres you want to read but haven't yet?

To be honest haven't really read any of this genre. I do have House In the Dark Shadows ordered. And looking forward to reading that book. After browsing through everyones comments, looks like there are a lot of great books out there in this genre. Better make a trip to the library soon. With my hectic weekend, I didn't get to read like I like to or make my Sunday afternoon trip to the library, that just threw me out of sync!

My First Book Review!

I know this is not a Christian book, but is was the last book I read, and I had to start somewhere. Hope you enjoy by review.

This book is The Notebook written by Nicholas Sparks.

In 1932, two North Carolina teenagers from opposite sides of the tracks fall in love. Spending one idyllic summer together in the small town of New Bern, Noah Calhoun and Allie Nelson do not meet again for 14 years. Noah has returned from WWII to restore the house of his dreams, having inherited a large sum of money. Allie, programmed by family and the "caste system of the South" to marry an ambitious, prosperous man, has become engaged to powerful attorney Lon Hammond. When she reads a newspaper story about Noah's restoration project, she shows up on his porch step, re-entering his life for two days. Will Allie leave Lon for Noah? The book's slim dimensions and cliche-ridden prose will make comparisons to The Bridges of Madison County inevitable. What renders Sparks's (Wokini: A Lakota Journey of Happiness and Self-Understanding) sentimental story somewhat distinctive are two chapters, which take place in a nursing home in the '90s, that frame the central story. I have seen the movie several times and had decided to read the book, my thinking is the book is always better than the movie, especially if you have a real good imagination. I thought the characters were very well developed except for Allie’s mom, but she did not play a very big roll anyway. Allie and Noah both had strong, believable characters. The story line was well written. It was like reading two love stories in one. The one of the past was very enjoyable. But the one of the present – was passionate and total from the heart. As I read, I was right there in the room feeling the pain that Noah was feeling. With a full box of Kleenex of course. I have never cried reading a book. Have laughed and giggled and received funny looks, but never cried, this was a first for me.

Why do you read and review Christian fiction? Do you exclusively read Christian fiction or do you also read general market books?

Christian Fiction is always a good clean read for everyone. I want to encourage more people to read it. I am going to start reviewing Christian fiction and placing my reviews on my blog. My first review is going to be on the book "The Shack" which I am currently reading. Christian fiction also helps to keep God in my heart and my mind, specially if I am reading about him a lot; in my Bible in my books - fiction, non-fiction.

I do not read only Christian fiction I do love to read a cozy mystery every now and then. They are light and fun to read.

I have finally come to the conclusion that I needed to back off on some of my activities and concentrate on only a few. I have chosen to work more on Cards for Heroes and I would like to become a book reviewer for Christian fiction. Now saying this I do love to read cozy mysteries so am sure I will post a little about them too.

New Endeavor ...

Thought it would be neat to start Cards for Heroes at our church as an outreach ministry. We will be meeting once a month making cards. These cards will be for the soldier to send back home to friends and family. They don’t have a Hallmark around the block to go pick up a card like we do, so this gives them the opportunity to send cards back home.

We will meet for the first time tomorrow, October 4. I don’t know how many to expect to show up I just want everyone to come and have a good time crafting and fellowshipping.

I have one sibling. His name is Brent. He is 6 years younger than I am. He is very smart and handsome. Yes, am a little biased. He is married to a wonderful gal named Angie. One thing I thought I would never be was aunt! But low and behold I have a niece and a nephew. They have a boy who is 3 and a girl who is 4. Both are the cutest and the most polite kids I have ever seen. The only problem is that they live out of state and we don’t get to see them as much as we would like.

Heaven

I dreamt that I went to Heaven and an angel was showing me around. We walked side-by-side inside a large workroom filled with angels. My angel guide stopped in front of the first section and said, "This is the Receiving Section. Here, all petitions to God said in prayer are received." I looked around in this area, and it was terribly busy with so many angels sorting out petitions written on voluminous paper sheets and scraps from people all over the world.Then we moved on down a long corridor until we reached the second section.The angel then said to me, "This is the Packaging and Delivery Section. Here, the graces and blessings the people asked for are processed and delivered to the living persons who asked for them. "I noticed again how busy it was there. There were many angels working hard at that station, since so many blessings had been requested and were being packaged for delivery to Earth. Finally at the farthest end of the long corridor we stopped at the door of a very small station. To my great surprise, only one angel was seated there, idly doing nothing. "This is the Acknowledgment Section," my angel friend quietly admitted to me. He seemed embarrassed "How is it that there is no work going on here?" I asked. "So sad," the angel sighed. "After people receive the blessings that they asked for, very few send back acknowledgments .""How does one acknowledge God's blessings?" I asked."Simple," the angel answered. Just say, "Thank you, Lord."

What a simple thing to do and so hard for us to remember.

Today I am thanking for the health I have, tho hasn’t been the greatest this week, it could be a lot worse. Am thankful that tho I have an irritating cough, I don’t feel that bad. Am grateful for the women in our Wed. night bible study class – their inspiration, humor, and love. They are such a special group of ladies. Last but not least, am thankful the weekend is around the corner.

I got happy mail today! I ordered a used copy of Twilight by Stepenie Meyer. I can't wait to get started. Tho I have to finish a few before I start, so sad.

Am currently reading books for the Fall into Reading challenge. I am reading Sisterchicks Do the Hula, Woman in Jerusalam, and have started Ahab's Wife. I love the Sisterchicks books, they are so fun to read. One minute am laughing the next minute am crying and I hate it when the book is over! The Woman In Jerusalem is a good read. It is a little different, you have all the character's titles (who/what they do) and only one name in the book - the name of the dead woman. As for the Ahab's Wife just started, is going to be a difficult read for me I expect. I don't even think I listed it for the challenge - so may not get it finished for the challenge.

Hello!

Am back from the moutains, wish I was still there, tho. It was nice and cool and beautiful as always. Everyone seemed to have a great time, including my folks. Get this my dad (74 in November) and mom, both went tubbing with us 4 and I think they actually enjoyed it! Here is a picture of the Old Mill in Pigeon Forge, TN.

Have some projects to share that I've been working on, bear with me as I don't know much about posting things on blogger or any where else for that matter, ha.

This first item I am putting together for a secret present, won't tell what it is all about until I have given it to the person, and then I will post a completed picture.

These are crocheted caps. HeadHuggers takes them to hospitals for chemo patients, head injuries, etc.

I thought this would be a great charity to do some crochet work for. The patterns are a fast stitch too.

Changes Are On Their Way ....

I have been away for quite sometime, away from blogging anyway. Had some life altering issues that came about. I lost my best friend Marjorie on May 15 and a month later, I lost my Uncle Cecil. I was just getting to the point of really becoming myself again after the loss of my grandmother and father-in-law, when these two loved ones, past. Life is really tough sometimes - but we can depend on God to help us through these tough times.

On with some exciting news. my interests change a LOT! I have become more interested in altered art so ... this means some changes to my site are a must. I will start making changes when I get back from our vacation.

Yes, we are going to TN again, but this time with my parents! We have asked them to join us this year. We all, yes WE ALL, are excited about having them come with us this year. We leave on Friday. Do you think they will go tubing with us???

The grassy area next to my car was littered with small, round, green things. My curiosity was piqued. At first I thought maybe it was a patch of toadstools or some other such plant life that had sprung up from the ground. Taking a step back to survey the surrounding area with a larger view, I saw a palm tree. Quickly scanning the trunk of the tree, I solved the mystery. The round things on the ground were dates. They had fallen from their position atop the date palm tree.
Life is full of things we may not understand or things we haven't seen before. From our vantage point we can only see so far. It's not until we stand back and look up that we get a clearer perspective. Nothing falls to us here on earth that hasn't passed under God's watchful eye. When we are confused or upset by the things we see around us, our first response should be to turn our thoughts heavenward.
Like the children of Israel, we may find ourselves in a fog, shivering in the cold dampness of the morning. But as the dew disappears, we will see that God has not forgotten us. He has been with us throughout the night. He continues to provide for us at every turn, feeding us in body and spirit. Daily we are strengthened for life's journey by the blessings he gives. Even when we are in the barren deserts, we are nourished by the bread of heaven. God sends us peace and comfort as we look to Him in prayer.

This is so good to remember especially when you feel like your life is in a downward spiral. God gives us strength to live day-to-day. And, he never gives us more than we can handle.

Changes and Growth ...

There have been several changes in our household lately. One major change has taken place over a course of a few months, so it has been a gradual change. My DSD is living with us on a permanent basis now. This was a big transition for us all. But through lots of love and patience, we have made it. DSD has settled right at home with us. She is a joy to be around.

Our next major change is starting right now – with my oldest graduating in May from high school. DD goes to the University on Friday, to pick out classes for this coming fall. It is hard to believe she will be going off to college soon. Where have the years gone??

With these changes I am hoping we have some growth too. No, not in number of family members, lol! But I hope we continue to love and support each other more over the next few months. Especially with my oldest leaving my nest so to speak, will bring tears of joy and sadness. I will need all the hugs I can get!

ATC bug that is ...
Okay, after hours of browsing and snooping, I have been bitten by the ATC bug! Oh how fun! These neat little 2.5x3.5 cards with art on them are wonderful. What a great way to be creative and to share one’s art. I have a few people from circleofcrafters.com site who want to trade with me. I received my first ATC from Scotland! Now how cool is that, a wonderful way to share across the world! I have also signed up for a couple of swaps on Creative Card Swaps Group on Yahoo (swapping cards and ATCs). Also signed up for a 3x3 black and white swap. That ought to be cool.

--Home What's the one thing your dream home must have?
A massive bedroom with French doors that open up to a court yard. The bedroom will have his/her walk-in closets. There would be a setting room off to one side that look out the French doors. The setting room would have a chaise lounge with a couple of wing backed chairs. Surrounding a fire place. Great place for reading! Ivory eyelet curtains would hang from big windows. Double, glass doors would lead into a massive master bathroom. The bathroom would have a big linen closet, double sinks, plenty of storage space, a huge round tub, the shower would have one of those shower heads that works like a sprinkler. The shower would be large with a sitting bench inside. Everything would be made of marble with pewter accessories. The bathroom would have a sky light to give more natural lighting. I have a thing about having enough light.
--Improvement What's the one thing you would change about your current home? New bed, couch? New carpet or wallpaper? Or something major like an addition? I would combine the living room and family room into one massive great room. Right now the two rooms are back to back with a load bearing wall in between, so that’s not gonna happen. We are planning on renovating the kitchen this fall with new appliances, a built in breakfast bar, new flooring, etc. Can’t hardly wait!
--Shows Do you ever watch home improvement shows? I watch HGTV, morning, noon and night when I can. I love the network. Mission organization and House Hunters are my favs. But I love all the shows!

Even the Little Things Count ...

We are studying the 40 Days of Purpose by Rick Warren in our bible study at church on Wednesday nights. This is the second time around for me. Is very cool to see what stood out in the study the first time around to what I think is important now. Boy oh boy, did day 5 in the study, hit home this week. It talked about the trials we have and how we manage them in our lives. It says God watches how we handle the trials. We are being tested with lots of little things at home, nothing too major. For instance, this morning I went to move Keri's car and it had a major flat! I thought about the study when this happened, and about my reaction, I was calm about the situation, but not DD - she was livid. I told her no big deal she could take me to work and have my car etc. Now how simple was that?? Sure, it put us in a time crunch, but we both made it to our destinations just fine.

I know am rambling a bit ... something to think about tho. Our reactions, to even the little things in life count also. “... everything you do has eternal implications.”

Trouble Sleeping ???

I have trouble sleeping most every night. I don’t use any sort of special techniques or potions to get to sleep. The trouble is not that I CAN’T SLEEP, I sleep very well until hubby comes to bed, and then I sleep really well, when he gets up in the mornings. Hubby is a roller; he is all over the bed. This is very distracting for me. But I would miss him if he wasn’t there, so I put up with it. On occasion, when I just can’t sleep I just lay there until I do go asleep. This doesn’t happen very often, cause I am worn out from all the other sleepless nights. Lol!

Books ...

1. Are you careful with the spines? Or do you crack your books open to make them lay flat? Very careful with the spines.

2. Do you use bookmarks? Or do you dog-ear the corners? If you do use bookmarks, do you use those fashionable metal ones? Or paper? I use paper bookmarks most of the time. Don't like to dog ear my pages.

3. Do you write in your books? Ever? If you do, do you make small marks, or write in as much blank space as you can find? Pen or pencil? Highlighter? Your name on the front page? Depends on the book, not fiction ones, but nonfiction I have a tendency to write and highlight. Usually put an address label in them because I loan them out.

4. Do you toss your books on the floor? Into bookbags? Or do you treat them tenderly, with respect? Never toss my books. I do use bookbags sometimes when I take several with me. I am hardly ever caught without a book or two.

5. Do you ever lay your book face-down, to save your place? Yes, I have done this a time or two but not for long periods of time.

6. Um--water? Do you bathe with your books? Hold them with wet hands? Read out in the rain? Anything of that sort? Never read in the bathtub or in the rain. I don’t want wet pages!

7. Are your books lined up on a bookshelf? Or crammed in any which way? Stacked on the floor? I have books lined up, crammed and some stacked on the floor.

8. Do you make a distinction--as regards book care--between hardcovers and paperbacks? Nope, but I do prefer the paperback.

9. And, to recap? Naturally, you love all of your books, but how, exactly? Are your books loved in the battered way of a well-loved teddy bear, or like a cherished photo album or item of clothing that's used, appreciated, but carefully cared for? I love my books like a cherished photo album. I appreciate them and care for them. Have a wee obsession with them.

How Do You Celebrate Valentine's Day ...

My DH and I usually buy the girls a small gift, small box of chocolates and a card for Valentine’s Day. The small gift usually is a DVD or CD they have been wanting. DH usually gives me a piece of jewelry or something I can use for my projects (crafts). Always for nice and sweet.

This morning I decided to give DH his card early.

The story behind the CARD: DH had gotten my a new program for Christmas so I thought I would use it to make his card. So the night before Valentine’s Day, I got the card all laid out and ready to print. I printed the front and back of the card and then headed for the printer and printed the inside with the verses, I amazingly put together on my own. I was so impressed with myself. Lol. After the card finished printing, I noticed the verses were printed upside down. Knowing that he doesn’t like me to waste ink … I added at the bottom a small PS. I am still learning. I took it and showed the card to my DDs (two of them). One DD thought I printed the card like that on purpose and got such a kick out of it. So I thought … I will give it to him and he will remember this particular card always!

DH loved the card upside down and all!

I have GOD in my life, is the most important reason for my happiness. I have my health, which is very important to me and those around me. I have a wonderful family. My DH pitched in yesterday to do laundry when I was feeling puny. He is my rock. I have two girls that make my life crazy sometimes, but I wouldn’t trade them for anything, lol! I also, have a wonderful mom and dad, who are always there for me, no matter what. I also have a great extended family and we are all close. I have wonderful friends who make me smile and support me through prayer and hugs. Another thing that keeps me happy is crafting/quilting for others. I love to be busy with my crafts. I love giving them as gifts. My life is happy and full with all that surround me. I thank GOD for all these things in my life.

Do you usually arrive on time or late?Do you get annoyed when other people arrive late or you really don’t care?

I am very prompt! I tend to arrive too early out of anticipation for some reason. I do get annoyed when people arrive late (more than 10 minutes). I think it is disrespectful of my time. My time is as important as everyone else’s. I don’t get annoyed tho, if you call and let me know what’s going on. Things happen and I am flexible. But time is important to everyone, so respect it!

Collecting

Does anyone you know collect unusual things or have an excessive amount of something? Do you?

I don’t come from a family of collectors. My DD collects coins. He is the only other family member I know of that collects anything for a hobby. I don’t really collect anything, but I do have an excessive amount of them … BOOKS! I have lots and lots of books. All kinds of books from crafts, mysteries, to self help. I tend to be an eclectic reader, whatever I am interested in at the time. Is a bad habit. I should use the library more, but I don’t like due dates on books. I like to underline etc. in books. I like to keep books for reference too. Course I do pass around my fiction books, so others can enjoy.

This Holiday's Favorite Memory ...

My newest favorite memory from this year's celebrations. My DB and family came in over the holidays. They stayed with my DM and DD. We went over to celebrate Christmas with them Christmas afternoon. When I walked into the family room, where everyone was visiting, my niece who is two, (three in January), ran over and hugged me like she knew exactly who I was. I was so excited. They live in PA so I don’t see them often, and being only two years of age, I was totally surprised. My DSI is a stay-at-home mom and is a wonderful mother. She works very hard with the kids, teaching them things and showing pictures of family – in hopes they will know or remember who we are. I think it is working! Was a wonderful visit all though way to short.

Donations and Thankfulness

Three things I would donate to charity are …

1) Clothes, which we donate quite frequently. In fact, here not too long ago, I donated some really nice tennis shoes by mistake. I was so excited about getting rid of some things! Ssshhh! Don’t tell DH. lol!

2) Food, we donate but not as much as we should, only when the bag is put on our mail box.

3) Time. I wish I could donate my time. There are so many things that need to be done for those in need.

Manners??? what? where?

In today’s society, I don’t think people know what they are!

It is sad watching kids run over their parents, parents not correcting them. Kids need to know that they are a kid not a parent. And parents need to let the kids know who is in charge. Boy, my DD and I struggled with this one at a very early age, and I did when the battle. She has grown into a very respectable person, who respects others as well.

And, whatever happened to sending out thank you notes, when you receive a wedding gift?? I have sent wedding gifts to two couples in the past few months and never received a thank you or anything. These young people are no busier than we are. How rude is that. These were kids I have known for several years too. Different generation or not, come on!

Well, at church yesterday I heard a good one … always hold hands when you say prayer at the table – keeps the kids out of the food, and sometimes the adults too. So guess what we have started doing at home, during prayer. I do have a couple of early bird nibbler in my home. I thought this was a good idea.

Halloween ... Past???

Both my DDs stayed home, they have both gotten to big to trick-or-treat. My eldest worked on homework and watched a ghoulish movie with me. My other daughter chilled with her dad. We didn’t have many treaters visit us last night. The weather was cold and windy, so that might have had something to do with it. Halloween was one of my favorite holidays when I was younger. My brother and I would listen to spooky records and draw pics together. Of course we always went treating together too. Had to look after him, being I was the eldest. One Halloween I remember so well, and can picture in my mind, my brother dressed up in one of my mom’s dresses. It was very bright with big circles and swirls on the print. Very wild! Wish I had a picture to post. He would absolutely kill me. So better skip that.

Last night was kind of sad, since everyone has grown up. I will continue to give out candy each year as long as the little ones keep coming to the door. My DH gets such a kick out of all the little ghosts and goblins coming to the door.

One Scary Moment ...

Years ago, one of my friends and I were in my bedroom listening to the stereo (when you listened to LPs on the turn table), we kept hearing this banging in the house. We were home by ourselves and you know how your imagination can run wild. We couldn’t not find where the banging was coming from. We decided to head downstairs to see if the noise was coming from there. On our way through the house, the noise grew louder. Our house had sliding doors that went out towards the backyard. As we started past the sliding door, we spotted the culprit! There was this big ol’ goat dripping with blood slamming his head into the glass door. He was trying to get to the other goat, ha! His own reflection. We were relieved that we found the source of the noise, but our terror focused on the thought that the ol’ goat might break the glass on come on it. I never will forget that day.

Praises and prayer requests ...

Wow what a week. Have lots of praises and prayer requests. I praise the Lord, Almighty for his strength, wisdom, and love. He has blessed me with great friends and family. He has pulled me through a very difficult week, only to shine brightly on our home on Sunday. My DSD needs your prayers – has been through a rough three weeks. She (we) are blessed with the help of a teacher, who is mentoring her daily. Through lots of love and encouragement my DSD will make great strides am sure.

I know several people that are in need of great prayer. My current pastor is dealing with a collapsed lung. My retired pastor has found out that he has cancer, prognosis was not good. Dear Lord, give these two special people your healing touch and be with them through these difficult times. Amen.

Has to be Sunday. We get up and go to early church and then the day is a free-for-all. We try to have lunch and supper together as a family. Sunday is usually the only day we can do that with works schedules and school. It is the most relaxing day for me during the entire week. But sad, cause Monday is right around the corner. I enjoy doing crafts and reading or catching some extra zzzzz’s on this day.

TV Love it Or Leave it ???

I could leave it really. Have too many other interests going on. In another post, I talked a little about TV – it is mostly on for white noise. Now, I do like a good thriller every now and then. I do think that TV and some music have created some problems in our house. I do think that everyone has there own preference in music and TV shows – but there comes a time when I just say okay, that’s enough turn it off. I don’t like to hear inappropriate music or really grungy language on TV. I will not listen to it – and I try not let the kids listen to it.

Food for thought – a good book is a lot more entertaining than the TV any day.

TV Programs ...

Of all the TV programs, which one have you watched the most? Why?
Is it connected in some way to your life and/or perspective?

If I sit down to really watch a show it is 7th Heaven. It is a good, clean show about everyday life. The kids are always in a situation that usually relates to something that has happened in our home, or could happen. My DD loves the show too, so, IF she isn’t working we usually watch it together. There are very few shows that I will sit down and actually watch. I am usually crafting or busy with the family. The TV is always on – just for the noise tho. Guess, I should switch to radio, but get tired of the same ol songs on all the time, and I listen to the radio at work all day. So TV isn’t a real big thing at our house.

I hear myself tapping away on the keyboard, a phone slams down in RTs office, a chair squeaking in SHs office and clearing his throat, file drawers are slamming, people coughing,a car outside started up, the fax machine ringing and the whir of the fan on my computer.

I would love to feel that way, right now. Am getting so stressed about this conference! Maybe I could stretch myself beyond my limits and release myself, ha! After the conference I will feel the release am sure. I had even forgot it was Friday – now that’s bad!

A Gift ...

What gift do you wish you could give (if reality was not a factor) to the most important person in your life?

To my DH I would love to replant him on the farm to live right now, instead of waiting until we retire. He definitely belongs on the farm. He loves working in the shop and out in the fields. He is more relaxed out there. Actually would do us both a world of good. Too bad can’t retire now.

1) I am a Christian, a mother of DD and DSD, and wife of DH.

2) I am the oldest of two, have a brother, six years younger. (He was quite the pain! Wouldn’t trade him for anything now tho, ha!)

3) I love reading, scrapbooking, quilting and crafting.

4) In eighth grade, I received an award for getting 80% or above on the fitness test! You can probably read that on Ripply’s, he he. (I was fit then)

If you could have a designer come into a room of your house and redecorate it for you, which room would it be and what would you ask them for?

It would definitely be my craft room. I love the paint on the walls, a warm terra cotta. Need some curtains, and lots of storage for all my crafts. At this point I have to move my current project to the kitchen table, because I don’t have room in my craft room to spread things out and work on them. Would also love a nice little quiet area, all of my own, for me and God to share.

Insignificant??

What fragments of your past stay with you even though they seem insignificant?

I can’t think of any thing insignificant, because to me if it was insignificant, I wouldn’t remember it, ha!

Something that may be insignificant to a lot of people: when I was little, my DD had Wednesdays off from work. He would take me to this little café called E&F and we would eat lunch and play pinball. To a lot of people this may seem insignificant, but to me they were special times. My DD worked a lot of hours when I was growing up as a trucker, tho we were blessed to have him home every night. So those Wednesday lunches where pretty special.

There are lots of things that may seem insignificant to others, that are special in some way to us.

Tattoos and Bookstores ...

If you could live one day without consequences, what would you do? Would you get a tattoo just to see what it was like? What other things would you try?

Yes, I would get a small tattoo, up on the back of my shoulder, a small flower, not a rose, that is so typical, more like a doodle (scrapbooking on the brain, ha). But, that isn’t going to happen any time in the near future. My DH works at the state prison, and hates tattoos with a passion. Can’t really blame him, know telling what he sees on a day-to-day basis. What else would I do? I can’t think of any other thing I would add to my body. I can think of several things I might take away from my body, ha. Can’t we all.

Something I would love to do – nothing body related would be to open up my own bookstore/coffee shop. That is a dream of mine. Like to try without the consequences.

I was working our Annual Conference down at the lake at Tan-Tar-A. The Conference hosts greater than 100 exhibitors from our state and others and holds many seminars for city officials around the state. City officials were in a panic and needing to get back to their cities. I also was desperate to get home to my family. It was an awful feeling not know actually what was happening, or going to happen and not being there with my family. Of course, we had to continue to work the Conference thru the weekend, we couldn’t leave. It was quite upsetting for all of us.

We all must go on with our lives now, remembering that terrible eventful day. God bless the familes that lost loved ones and those who served and are serving our Country today.

Eating out ...

Where do you like to go to eat out? What do you order?
Any stories of a special night out?

I love to eat Mexican and so does my DH. We usually go out to Labamba every other Saturday night. I order the burrito special most of the time. My DH usually orders what’s called a “giant burrito” and believe me, it is huge!

Stories about a special night out? Well, any time that I can have Mexican, my fav food with my DH is a special night out.
